Meenketan
An oval standing mirror framed by fish. Enamelled fish in blue and green descend the inner frame, worked against fine silver nakshi, with pearl-and-stone drops hanging from the sides like the fringe of an ornament. The oval glass is ringed in dense floral engraving and raised on a turned silver pedestal with a lotus-worked base, so the mirror stands as a piece of sculpture in its own right.

The Detail
Worked entirely by hand in Jaipur, the piece dresses a mirror as jewellery: fish raised in enamel, hanging drops that catch the light, a pedestal that lifts the whole. It is made to be looked into, and made to be looked at.
