Mayuri
A thali built around a pair of peacocks. Two birds face one another across the plate in raised gold repoussé, their bodies worked in fine scaled and beaded detail, tails sweeping to meet at a full gold lotus at the centre. The silver ground is finely matted so the gold lifts clean against it, and the rim is set all the way round with deep pink cabochons that frame the whole like a garland. The set is completed by silver bowls and a lidded diya, each carrying the same silver-and-gold hand.

The Detail
Worked entirely by hand in Jaipur, the piece takes an object of daily ritual and gives it the weight of a centrepiece: gold against silver, colour held to the edge, symmetry that reads as calm. It is made to be used, and made to be seen.
