Photo Frame

Matsya

A frame carried by fish. Two fish curve down each side in raised silver, their scaled bodies and fanned tails worked in fine detail, with a further pair meeting at the base and a crest of scrolling silver above. The oxidised ground sets off the bright metal, so the frame reads as a carved panel around the picture it holds, where the fish, an old emblem of abundance and good fortune, frame whatever is placed within.

The Detail

Worked entirely by hand in Jaipur, the piece treats a photo frame as sculpture: fish raised in full relief, foliage carried across every edge, a picture held at the still centre. It is made to hold a portrait, and made to be one of the studio's own.
